A Major Solar Storm Will Bring The Northern Lights Again

Once again, a major solar storm has hit our planet. This time around, the Northern Lights will be visible farther south. The storm is classified as severe, marked 4/5 in severity. It's also expected to continue into Friday morning, and could possibly upgrade to a 5/5 storm. If you are interested, go take a look outside. Even if you are further south, pull out your phone - they are more sensitive and can sometimes pick these up. If you miss out, don't worry. It seems like we are getting more and more of these. This major solar storm is happening because of a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) which reached us at 11AM EDT.

NASA’s NEOWISE Spacecraft Is Set To Retire

On Thursday, NASA commanded the NEOWISE spacecraft to turn off its instruments. The spacecraft has been in service for over ten years at NASA.During that time, NEOWISE helped NASA do many things, such as tracking asteroids and comets which could be hazardous to us. The reasoning behind ending it's mission is because the spacecraft will soon drop too low, making it impossible to provide useful data. The spacecraft is expected to burn up in our atmosphere sometime this year.

NASA Captures Stunning Image of Horsehead Nebula

NASA has recently announced the James Webb Telescope captured the sharpest images to date of the Horsehead Nebula.Located 1,300 light years away, the Horsehead Nebula is located in the constellation Orion. The nebula formed from a collapsing cloud of material, and it glows thanks to a nearby hot star. From the images we can see, the gas clouds surrounding it have dissipated.Astronomers estimate the Nebula has about 5 million more years to shine.Image Source: NASA

Our Guide On How To See the April Total Solar Eclipse

April is getting even closer, which means the total solar eclipse is right around the corner. For those who don't know abut a total solar eclipse, we have a guide for you.The eclipse will happen on April 8. It will be visible from Mexico, Canada, and the United States. If you don't know what this event is, it happens when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth completely blocking out the sun. During this event, the sky will darken. However, you can't just go out and watch one of these events with your bare eyes. You will need to wear specialized solar eclipse glasses. Most stores are carrying these, and you can find them on Amazon as well.If you wish to take photos, you will want to get a filter. If you are using a smartphone, you can get smartphone filters. For those w...

Webb Telescope Shows Rocky Planets Form In Harsh Areas

The James Webb Telescope has helped an international team of astronomers discover an observation of water and other molecules in a rocky planet forming regions in the most extreme environments in our galaxy. These results suggest that the conditions for terrestrial planet formation can occur in a possible broader range of environments then we thought. This is only the first result of the eXtreme Ultraviolet Environments (XUE) James Webb Program, which focuses on the characterization of planet-forming disks. These are basically vast, spinning clouds of gas, dust, and chunks of rock where planets form and evolve. The XUE program targets a total of 15 disks in three areas of the Lobster Nebula (also known as NGC 6357), which is about 5,500 light years from us.The Lobster Nebula is ...
