NASA has shared a photo of the star cluster known as NGC 2264, which also looks like a glowing Christmas tree star cluster. Located about 2,500 light years away from Earth, the stars in this photo are about 1 to five million years old.
The image you see is rotated 160 degrees, to make it look like a Christmas tree star cluster. The stars in this cluster range from less than a tenth the mass of the sun, to other containing about seven solar masses. The blue and white lights in the photo are are young stars, that give off X-Rays detected by the Chandra X-ray Observatory.
Thanks to data from a telescope by the National Science Foundation, we are also able to see the green gas, which help make the image look like a Christmas tree.
